नई दिल्ली, भारत में हुए ब्रिक्स समिट के सफल समापन के बाद, भारत सरकार का संस्कृति मंत्रालय अपनी ब्रिक्स अध्यक्षता के तहत ‘ब्रिक्स थिएटर फेस्टिवल’ 2026 के साथ एक और महत्वपूर्ण महोत्सव का आतिथ्य करने के लिए तैयार है । यह फेस्टिवल 12 से 14 अक्टूबर, 2026 तक नई दिल्ली में 9 देशों – भारत, थाईलैंड, इंडोनेशिया, रूस, वियतनाम, ईरान, साउथ अफ्रीका, कज़ाकिस्तान, इथियोपिया और ब्रिक्स के सदस्य और पार्टनर देशों के सौ से अधिक कला-प्रेमियों के साथ होगा। यह फेस्टिवल ब्रिक्स सदस्य देशों और पार्टनर देशों के थिएटर प्रैक्टिशनर, स्कॉलर्स, स्टूडेंट्स और ऑडियंस को थिएटर ट्रेडिशन, कंटेंपररी परफॉर्मेंस प्रैक्टिस और शेयर्ड कल्चरल वैल्यूज़ की विविधता का संगम के लिए एक साथ लाएगा ।

इस महोत्सव में हिस्सा लेने वाले देशों के ‘नेशनल थिएटर स्कूल’ और महत्वपूर्ण थिएटर इंस्टीट्यूशन हिस्सा लेंगे, जिसमें रूस को उसके ‘नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट’ और ‘नेशनल कल्चरल इंस्टीट्यूट’ के दो समूह अपनी प्रस्तुति करेंगे। महोत्सव का उद्घाटन 12 अक्टूबर को नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ़ ड्रामा परिसर में होगा । नई दिल्ली के चार प्रेक्षागृहों में नाट्य प्रस्तुतियाँ होंगी, जिनमें राष्ट्रीय नाट्य विद्यालय के अभिमंच ऑडिटोरियम तथा सम्मुख सभागार, कमानी सभागार, एल.टी.जी. सभागार, मेघदूत थिएटर शामिल हैं। प्रतुतियों के लिए टिकट BookMyShow पर ₹200/- प्रति टिकट की आसान कीमत पर मिलेंगे, जिससे दर्शक इंटरनेशनल थिएटर शो-केस का अनुभव कर सकेंगे।

मीडिया को संबोधित करते हुए,  विवेक अग्रवाल, IAS, माननीय सेक्रेटरी, मिनिस्ट्री ऑफ़ कल्चर, गवर्नमेंट ऑफ़ इंडिया, भारत की ओर से ‘ब्रिक्स  कल्चरल एजेंडा’ में इस पहल की अहमियत पर ज़ोर दिया गया । भारत ने 2026 के लिए ब्रिक्स की अध्यक्षता संभाली है, जिसका थीम है “बिल्डिंग फॉर रेजिलिएंस, इनोवेशन, कोऑपरेशन एंड सस्टेनेबिलिटी”, यानी ‘”सुदृढ़ता, नवाचार, सहयोग और सतत विकास के लिए निर्माण” जिसमें ब्रिक्स देशों में कोऑपरेशन को मज़बूत करने के लिए आम-जन को ध्यान में रखकर तथा उज्ज्वल भविष्य के लिए दृष्टि अपनाया गया है।

भारत की अध्यक्षता में, ब्रिक्स कल्चर ट्रैक के ज़रिए सहयोग तीन ज़रूरी क्षेत्र पर केंद्रित है:
• कॉपीराइट, डिजिटल इनोवेशन और आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस सहित कल्चरल और क्रिएटिव इंडस्ट्री में सहयोग को बढ़ावा देना;
• कल्चरल हेरिटेज की सुरक्षा को मज़बूत करना और कल्चरल प्रॉपर्टी की वापसी के लिए सहयोग करना; और
• क्लाइमेट रेजिलिएंस और सस्टेनेबल डेवलपमेंट में कल्चर की भूमिका पर बातचीत को बढ़ावा देना।

भारत की अध्यक्षता में होने वाले ब्रिक्स कल्चर वर्किंग ग्रुप के एंगेजमेंट के दौरान संस्कृति मंत्रालय इन ज़रूरी बातों पर भी ज़ोर देगी।

कल्चर ट्रैक के तहत BRICS कल्चर वर्किंग ग्रुप (CWG) और ब्रिक्स देशों  के कल्चर मिनिस्टर्स की बैठक के ज़रिए एंगेजमेंट को आगे बढ़ाया जा रहा है, जिससे हिस्सा लेने वाले देशों के बीच कोलेबोरेटिव इनिशिएटिव, प्रोफेशनल एक्सचेंज और इंस्टीट्यूशनल पार्टनरशिप हो रही है।

इस बैकग्राउंड में, ब्रिक्स थिएटर फेस्टिवल 2026 थिएटर के ज़रिए आर्टिस्टिक और कल्चरल एक्सचेंज के लिए एक डेडिकेटेड प्लेटफॉर्म देना चाहता है। यह फेस्टिवल हिस्सा लेने वाले देशों की नाट्य प्रस्तुतियाँ दिखाएगा, जो क्लासिकल, कंटेम्पररी और एक्सपेरिमेंटल फॉर्म्स सहित थिएटर ट्रेडिशन की एक बड़ी रेंज को रिप्रेजेंट करेगा।

गम्भीर आर्टिस्टिक एंगेजमेंट और प्रोफेशनल एक्सचेंज को बढ़ावा देने के लिए, हर थिएटर परफॉर्मेंस के बाद सुबह एक इंटरैक्टिव थिएटर वर्कशॉप और डिस्कशन सेशन रखा जाएगा। इन सेशन में उन प्रस्तुतियों के डायरेक्टर, कास्ट और क्रू मेंबर शामिल होंगे। इंटरैक्टिव सेशन में ये शामिल होंगे:
● उस प्रोडक्शन के आर्टिस्टिक विज़न, थीम और प्रोडक्शन प्रोसेस पर डिस्कशन;
● परफॉर्मेंस ट्रेडिशन, एक्टिंग मेथड, स्टेजक्राफ्ट और टेक्निकल डिज़ाइन पर एक्सचेंज;
● ऑडियंस के साथ इंटरेक्शन और सवाल-जवाब सेशन; और
● इंटरकल्चरल लर्निंग और क्रिएटिव डायलॉग को बढ़ावा देने के मकसद से कोलेबोरेटिव एक्सरसाइज।

इस महोत्सव का उद्येश्य ब्रिक्स  देशों में थिएटर कम्युनिटी के बीच आपसी सीख को बढ़ावा देना, प्रोफेशनल नेटवर्क को मजबूत करना और लंबे समय तक सहयोग को बढ़ावा देना है। थिएटर, अलग-अलग सांस्कृतिक परंपराओं और वर्तमान से जुड़ी कहानियों को एक साथ लाने की अपनी काबिलियत से, इंसानी अनुभवों को जानने के लिए एक मज़बूत प्लेटफॉर्म देता है। यह फेस्टिवल परफॉर्मेंस की इस आम भाषा का इस्तेमाल समाजों के बीच कनेक्शन को दिखाने के लिए करना चाहता है, साथ ही ब्रिक्स देशों के बीच कल्चरल सहयोग, सबको साथ लेकर चलने और क्रिएटिव सहयोग को बढ़ावा देना चाहता है।

इसलिए यह फेस्टिवल न सिर्फ थिएटर की बेहतरीन कला दिखाने का काम करेगा, बल्कि ब्रिक्स सहयोग के दूरदर्शिता के साथ कल्चरल बातचीत, प्रोफेशनल लेन-देन और लोगों के बीच जुड़ाव के लिए एक आधार भी बनेगा।

नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ़ ड्रामा (NSD), जो भारत सरकार के संस्कृति मंत्रालय के तहत एक स्वायत्त संस्था है, ब्रिक्स थिएटर फेस्टिवल 2026 को सुव्यवस्थित रूप में आयोजित करने के लिए नोडल एजेंसी के तौर पर काम करेगा।

BRICS Theatre Festival 2026 to Bring Together Diverse Theatrical Traditions Under the Theme ‘Shared Stories, Shared Futures’ with 9 countries & over 100 participants

Following the successful conclusion of the BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, India- the Ministry of Culture Government of India is set to host another significant engagement under its BRICS Presidency with the BRICS Theatre Festival 2026, scheduled to take place from 12 to 14 October 2026 in New Delhi with 9 participating countries – India, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia, Vietnam, Iran, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia & over 100+ participants from member and partners countries of BRICS. The Festival will bring together theatre practitioners, scholars, students and audiences from BRICS Member Countries and Partner Countries to celebrate the diversity of theatrical traditions, contemporary performance practices and shared cultural values.
The festival will feature participation from national theatre schools and leading theatre institutions across the participating countries, with Russia represented by two groups from its National Institute and National Cultural Institute. The inauguration will be held at the National School of Drama premises on 12th October, marking the formal opening of the three-day festival. Performances will be staged across four venues in New Delhi, including NSD, Abhimanch Auditorium ,Sammukh Auditorium, Kamani Auditorium, LTG Auditorium, Meghdoot Theatre. Tickets for the performances will be available through BookMyShow at an accessible price of ₹200 per ticket, allowing audiences to experience the international theatre showcase.

Under India’s Presidency, cooperation through the BRICS Culture Track is centred on three broad priority areas: promoting collaboration in cultural and creative industries, including copyright, digital innovation and artificial intelligence; strengthening cultural heritage protection and cooperation towards the return of cultural property; and encouraging dialogue on the role of culture in climate resilience and sustainable development. These priorities will also be highlighted by the Ministry of Culture during the BRICS Culture Working Group engagements held under India’s 2026 Presidency.
Engagements under the Culture Track are being advanced through meetings of the BRICS Culture Working Group (CWG) and the BRICS Ministers of Culture, leading to collaborative initiatives, professional exchanges and institutional partnerships among participating countries.
Against this backdrop, the BRICS Theatre Festival 2026 seeks to provide a dedicated platform for artistic and cultural exchange through theatre. The Festival will showcase curated full-length theatre productions from participating countries, representing a wide spectrum of theatrical traditions, including classical, contemporary and experimental forms.
To encourage deeper artistic engagement and professional exchange, an interactive theatre workshop and discussion session will be organised on the morning following each theatrical performance. These sessions will involve the Director, cast and crew members of the respective production. The interactive sessions will include:
• Discussions on the artistic vision, themes and production process of the respective production;
• Exchanges on performance traditions, acting methodologies, stagecraft and technical design;
• Audience interaction and question-and-answer sessions; and
• Collaborative exercises aimed at fostering intercultural learning and creative dialogue.
These engagements are intended to promote mutual learning, strengthen professional networks and encourage long-term collaboration among theatre communities across BRICS countries. Theatre, through its ability to bring together stories rooted in different cultural traditions and contemporary realities, provides a powerful platform to explore shared human experiences. The Festival seeks to use this common language of performance to highlight the connections between societies while promoting cultural cooperation, inclusivity and creative collaboration among BRICS nations.
The Festival will therefore serve not only as a showcase of theatrical excellence but also as a platform for cultural dialogue, professional exchange and people-to-people engagement, aligned with the broader objectives of BRICS cooperation.
The National School of Drama (NSD), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, shall serve as the nodal agency for organising the BRICS Theatre Festival 2026.
Each participating country will present one theatre production during the Festival, providing audiences with an opportunity to experience diverse theatrical forms, languages, performance traditions and contemporary creative expressions from across the participating nations.
The Festival represents an important cultural engagement under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026 and seeks to translate the larger BRICS vision of cooperation and people-to-people exchange into a shared artistic experience. Through theatre, the initiative will bring together stories, artists and audiences across borders, strengthening cultural understanding and creating pathways for continued collaboration.
